What is Twilights
Twilight shifts are the surgical version of on-calls. They are from Monday - Sunday (subsequently, you are afforded with 2 zero days)
You start later in the day and take on any urgent jobs that were not completed by the day team.
You also answer any bleeps from the wards about issues that occur during the evening
Shift Timings
Monday - Friday: 1600 - 0000
Saturday - Sunday: 1400 - 2200
📍
Handover starts normally in the Doctor's Mess. You will receive handovers from urology, colorectal and emergency surgery. Sometimes the Emergency Team may ask you join their PM Handover which usually occurs outside Theatre 5 at around 1600. Sometimes, you will finish off the ward round with the reg/cons on call if needed.
📍
Everyday evening handover takes place at 20:00 outside theatre 4 where the Emergency list is run through and you have the opportunity to raise any concerns that you may have. At the end of your shift, handover any important jobs to the night SHO (108). Again it's best to get the WhatsApp contact of the night team.
