ππΌ Order -> "Routine" ("Phelebotomist list"; "No" to "nurse collect"; "0800")
ππΌ Includes: FBC, CRP, LFTs, U and E, Bone Profile, Magnesium
ππΌ Most surgical patient require daily bloods (this includes putting out bloods for the weekend)
ππΌ Ensure bloods are on the phlebotomist list before 0800 as they are often rejected by phelebotomists after this
2οΈβ£ Cross Match:
ππΌ Order -> "Cross Match" -> Print Requisition Form + Phone Lab + Inform ward nurses to ensure blood released
ππΌ Crucial when planning for potential blood transfusion during surgical procedures
ππΌ Tests the compatability of patient's blood and donor blood to prevent transfusion reactions
ππΌ Particularly important in surgeries where significant blood loss is anticipated or for patients with low Hb levels
3οΈβ£ Group and Save:
ππΌ Order -> "Group and Save" -> Print Requisition Form
ππΌ Determining the patient's blood type and Rh factor and storing this information for future blood transfusion
ππΌ It is a preemptive step in case urgent blood transfusion is needed during or after surgery
